Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment for Hyperthyroidism

In traditional Chinese medicine, hyperthyroidism is classified as "goiter". The causes of hyperthyroidism can be divided into congenital and acquired.

Congenital causes are due to family genetics, while acquired causes include emotional instability, irregular diet, physical constitution, and lifestyle, leading to stagnation, phlegm, dampness, and blood stasis in the front of the neck.

The proportion of women with hyperthyroidism is higher than that of men. This is because women's health is based on blood. When women experience emotional depression, high stress, or overindulge in spicy and fatty foods, their liver cannot function properly, leading to stagnation of liver qi, liver fire, or imbalance of the spleen and stomach. This affects the production of qi and blood, and the inability of qi and blood to nourish the liver causes qi stagnation and phlegm accumulation in the thyroid gland. Therefore, women are more prone to hyperthyroidism.

Western medicine treatment of hyperthyroidism

While Western medicine can effectively improve thyroid function indicators, it is less effective in improving sub-health issues such as goiter, tension, and irritability.
